History[]

Season Seven[]

In "Get By", KJ bumps into Tori while she's at her locker applying lip gloss. He apologizes, explaining that it's his first day and he's just trying to figure out where he's going. Tori guesses he's just moved from Oakland, noting his hat with the city's name. She tells him he has a nice smile and offers to show him around, giving him the "who's who". KJ claims he's already figured everyone out, pointing out the fashion, gaming, and wellness influencers. Tori is impressed and asks what kind of influencer he thinks she is. He replies that, based on her makeup and ring light mirror, she's definitely a beauty influencer. Tori's mood visibly shifts, and she sarcastically comments that it must be nice knowing everything before leaving.

Later, Tori is unhappy during Billy's dedication ceremony. When Principal London introduces the cheer team, Tori leaves the room, which catches KJ's attention. He follows her into the hall, where he finds her practicing cheer routines. Tori notices him when she turns around and quickly leaves. KJ tells Amina that Tori was the girl he offended earlier, and he didn't know she was a cheerleader. Amina tells him that she's not just a cheerleader—she was the cheerleader. No one really knows what happened to Tori. Some say it was an injury, but she never came back from it.

Tori and KJ talk at The Hangout. Tori pokes fun at him, and KJ notes that she's in a better mood. She claims that she doesn't know what he's talking about. KJ apologizes, saying he had no idea that she was an athlete who had to stop competing. He admits that he made assumptions about her and everyone else. Tori tells him that people assume she quit cheer because she got injured. She lost her footing on a pyramid, fell to the floor, suffered a concussion, and broke three ribs. She tried working her way through it, but she developed "twisties", like Simone Biles. There's no quick fix for it, as it's all mental. She left the team and struggled to see them win nationals without her. Tori still loves cheer and would do anything to be out there contributing. She tells KJ to find a way to connect with his team. He tried, but he's constantly comparing his new team to his old one. Tori tells him that he's not in Oakland anymore, so he should let that go. She suggests that he try being their teammate before trying to be their leader.
