History[]

Season Five[]

In "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down", Coach Montes wants Asher to sign Marco Galvez, a five-star tailback. Spencer calls just as Asher and Jaymee arrive to give Marco a tour of Coastal California College. Marco introduces himself as being from South Los Angeles and mentions that he's vegan. Asher jokes that Jaymee has him on a plant-based kick lately, but he's not 100% committed. Jaymee chimes in, saying he's 100% committed to Marco. Asher adds that Marco would be a great addition to Coastal. They have a great, young core of players, endless NIL opportunities, and, most importantly, a head coach who will be there for the long haul—unlike at GAU. Marco tells him that José Cortez, the first Salvadoran to ever play in the NFL, is a big inspiration to him and his family. Cortez lived out his dream and did it his own way. Spencer calls again, and Asher intercepts the call. Spencer realizes that Asher is the one trying to swoop in on Marco, and it's clear Coastal has caught his interest. Asher then takes Marco on a tour of the training facilities.

When Marco meets with Spencer later, he mentions that a few of his cousins, his aunt, and his uncle all graduated from GAU. Family is important to him, but so is energy, good vibes, and being different. He thinks Coastal has that, especially with Asher. Marco likes that they're a young team that's loaded, hungry, and ready to take the next step. Spencer argues that they are, too, but Marco reminds him that they don't have a head coach. Spencer tells him that he was in a similar situation last year with Toledo State. Spencer explains that while Garrett was just the face of the program, Coach Kenny is the heart. Marco's head is scrambling with so many offers, but Spencer tells him to choose what's right for him and his family. In the end, Marco chose GAU, as he felt GAU gave him the best chance of living his dream.

In "Hate It or Love It", it is revealed that Marco de-committed from GAU after Olivia's article dropped.

In "Mask Off", Marco returns to GAU for a visit. He feels awkward being back in the locker room after turning them down, but Spencer reassures him that he's always welcome. Spencer asks him about Florida, and Marco replies that there are a lot of moving parts, but nothing he can't handle. Spencer tells him there's no hard feelings about Marco not signing with GAU and that a year ago, he was in Marco's exact position. Marco counters that those shoes fit differently. Clearwater State discovered that he's gay and wants to make him the face of a campaign. Although he's out and proud, he didn't sign up to be the face of it at a university that fired a teacher for being out just a few years ago. He just wants to play football. The publicity and gossip are starting to create problems, diverting attention from the field. Some of his teammates even think he's receiving special treatment. He just wants to train in peace, which is why he came back to Los Angeles for Spring Break. Spencer invites him to run drills with the team later, but Marco doubts the coaches will be happy about it. Spencer tells him that they're running voluntary, student-led practices and could use Marco to push the team harder.

An hour before the team practice starts, Marco meets Spencer at the bleachers. Spencer tells him that a wise athlete once helped him through his own identity crisis and made him realize he needed to define Spencer James on his own terms. Marco claims he already knows who he is. Spencer doesn't doubt it, but he encourages Marco to say it out loud and record it. The recording is meant to serve as a reminder of who he is and why he's here—he can just put on his headphones, listen, recenter, and get back to work. Marco finds it corny, but Spencer urges him to try it anyway. His narrative isn't just one thing. Marco is the son of two wonderful immigrant parents of Salvadorian and Haitian descent. He's also an overprotective brother, a lover of anime and dance, and a five-star running back who happens to be gay.

At practice, Marco tells Spencer that the squad has some serious heat and that they're going to sneak up on people for sure. He says the hunger hits differently now. He knows Sal's story and now Kai's, and describes the team as season four of Friday Night Lights. Spencer says he's never seen it, and both Jordan and Marco think he's missing out on "the greatest football show of all time". Marco mentions that the GAU administration has to be excited for the next season. Spencer isn't so sure, as he doesn't think the new recruits are flashy enough for the president. Marco tells him that flashy doesn't guarantee wins. Spencer urges him to get back on the field for round two, teasing that right now he's only seeing a three- or four-star recruit.

Marco walks in on a conversation between Dr. Gutenberg and Spencer and tells Spencer that the GAU roster is full of heart, grit, and dedication. He regrets not being part of it. The team is rewriting their narrative, and he wants to do the same. He officially de-commits from Clearwater State and joins the GAU football team.

Season Six[]

In "Public Service Announcement", Marco is seen in the locker room with the rest of the team ahead of their first game of the new season. They come out of the game with a win.
