Janelle Cooper is Coop's mother. She is portrayed by Judith Scott.
History[]
In "i", she was first introduced as the director of the church choir, which Patience was a part of. Coop comes to visit, and asks when her parents are leaving for the retreat. Janelle asks Coop not to throw a house party, break her good stuff, or have any guys over while they are gone.
The next morning, she returns home and sees that Patience has slept over. Visibly bothered, she tells Coop breakfast is in 10 minutes. She tells Coop that she doesn't want her hanging around Patience anymore, as she's "trouble". When Coop tells her that she's gay, she tells Coop that she's just confused, saying that girls like Patience are confusing her. Janelle tells her that she and Mr. Cooper raised her right, and that she will not accept Coop, thereby kicking her out of the house.
