"I think I did deserve it. And, honestly, I feel better. Every morning since I made that hit, I've woken up with this heavy feeling in my chest. Shame. Disappointment. But today, I didn't feel that. All that guilt Garrett made me carry, that's on him now. I owned up to what I did. I stopped letting fear keep me from moving forward. I'm moving on. I'm turning a page." ― Isaiah[source]

Isaiah Winfield is a recurring character on All American. He is portrayed by Zachary S. Williams.

History[]

Season Four[]

In "Bird in the Hand", Isaiah compliments Jordan's throw during practice for the Platinum All-American Game. He introduces himself as a reserve from Arizona. Despite being reserves, Isaiah points out that they still get to wear the uniforms with “All-American” across the front. Jordan asks Isaiah where he's going to play, but Isaiah is still undecided. When Jordan mentions he plans to play JuCo for a couple of years and then transfer to D1 because of his two concussions, Isaiah says his plan sounds solid.

At the game, Isaiah meets Billy. He says it's an honor to meet him and mentions that his brother had Billy's jersey. Billy offers to sign it, but Isaiah says it was a long time ago and probably doesn't have it anymore. Isaiah can't believe Jordan's dad was in the NFL. It's the dream, but Jordan admits it was tough growing up in his shadow. He almost quit a few times, but Isaiah reminds him that he didn't, and now he's in the All-American Game.

When Jordan gets put into the game, he asks Coach Montes to put Isaiah in too. Jordan tells him Isaiah's earned it and that it's their time now. They both turned pressure into fuel. Jordan throws the ball to Isaiah, who scores a touchdown.

In "6 'N the Mornin", Isaiah practices with the rest of the GAU football team. Both Coach Kenny and Jordan compliment his catch, which reminds them of the one at the All-American Game. Later, Spencer tells Isaiah he's taking advantage of the opportunities, but Isaiah is confident that Spencer will get his chance. However, he's not entirely sure about himself, since he's a walk-on. Jordan reassures him that they'll get in there—they just have to believe. At practice, Coach Garrett uses Isaiah as an example to show Spencer what he needs to do to get off the line.

In "Liberation", Isaiah makes third-string on the depth chart, ahead of Spencer. Isaiah tells Spencer not to worry about it—he'll get his shot. In a conversation with Spencer and Coach Kenny, Coach Garrett reveals that Spencer took Isaiah's athletic scholarship. Garrett also claims that there's no favoritism—Isaiah is simply the better player.

In "Jump On It", Isaiah offers to pay Jordan back for everything at the party, but Jordan tells him not to worry about it. Spencer doesn't see the point of the party, but Isaiah thinks it's important that they bond with their teammates.

Season Five[]

In "Don't Sweat the Technique", Isaiah hits Chomps Taylor with an illegal chop block to the knee during the ATL Bowl. This catches Olivia and Billy's attention, leading them to believe that Garrett had Isaiah intentionally target Chomps. At the party, Isaiah talks with Asher, who comments that the 10-14 loss to Kilson was a tough one. Later, Coach Garrett rewards Isaiah with a full athletic scholarship for his hard work and dedication to the team both on and off the field.

In "Feeling Myself", Spencer finds Isaiah sitting in the locker room. He tells him that Roger Taylor's injury is worse than they thought, and he might not play again. Spencer reassures Isaiah, saying it's not his fault, reminding him that he hurt one of his best friends in junior year. Isaiah claims it's not the same, but Spencer knows the truth and insists that it's still not his fault.

After talking with Spencer, Isaiah meets Olivia at a café to talk about Coach Garrett. She asks if Garrett told him to injure Roger Taylor in the bowl game. Isaiah says yes, adding that he taught him how to do it, too. They practiced.

In "Feel It In the Air", Isaiah runs into Jordan and Spencer in the locker room. Every time he talks to them, they ask him to blow up his life. He already did the last favor they asked, so he's done. Spencer and Jordan want Isaiah to come forward with a firsthand account to prove that Garrett acted alone, but Isaiah can't afford to do that. The moment he admits that he intentionally injured a player, his scholarship will be revoked. He feels bad for Kenny and the other coaches, but he believes they'll find another job. Spencer argues that this will follow them around forever, and Jordan urges Isaiah to do the right thing.

Later, Spencer finds Isaiah cleaning out his locker. He tells Spencer that he's informed the NCAA that Garrett was the only one responsible for the bounties. And when they asked how he knew that, he told them about what he did in the bowl game. Spencer reassures him that he is a victim, too. Isaiah received the official email this morning: they're erasing his spot on the team and revoking his scholarship. Spencer says that Isaiah doesn't deserve any of this, but Isaiah insists that he thinks he does. Despite everything, he feels better. Every morning since he made that hit, he's woken up with shame and disappointment, but after coming clean, he doesn't feel that anymore. All the guilt Garrett made him carry is on him now. He owned up to what he did. He stopped letting fear keep him from moving forward. He's turning a page and moving on.
