"When my wife passed, I didn't think I'd love anyone like that again. I just didn't think it was possible, and then gorgeous Grace entered my life, and she was a force of nature. She just had this way of making you feel like you were just capable of doing anything. In Grace, all the feelings that I thought were dead started to come alive again like she just flipped a switch right in my heart and turned the power back on. That's how I knew she was the one." ― D'Angelo[source]
Grace and Carter is a relationship on All American, portrayed by Karimah Westbrook and Lamon Archey.
History[]
Grace and Carter first met when he became the new principal of South Crenshaw High, where she worked as Dean of Student Affairs. The two of them initially didn't get along very well and clashed frequently due to her disagreeing about his way of running the school and intention to transform it into a magnet school. As time went on though, they started to get to know each other better and discovered they had more in common than they initially thought: in fact, just like Grace, Carter was widowed and had a pre-teen daughter, whom he had some struggles to raise all alone. They thus started to bond over both being single parents as Grace gave Carter some advice to help him with his daughter. While getting closer, they soon developed feelings for each other until Carter decided to ask Grace out, which she happily accepted, eventually starting a relationship.
Grace and Carter's relationship started growing increasingly stronger until they had to make their first major decision as a couple when Carter was offered an important job position in Oakland. Despite it being his dream job, Carter was caught off guard because for the first time in a very long time he felt at home with Grace and didn’t want to separate from her, so when he told her about the offer he made it clear that he would have wanted her to move to Oakland with him and build a future together, but he didn’t pressure her to make such a decision without first thinking carefully about it, knowing that both everything she loved and her life were in Los Angeles. Grace responded by openly telling him that if he had moved, not everything she loved would have still been in Los Angeles and took some time to think about it. Despite initially being hesitant about what to do, however, all Grace’s doubts vanished when Carter even proposed to her in "Champagne Glasses" and she happily accepted, ultimately deciding to move to Oakland with him after the wedding because she didn’t want to have a “long-distance marriage”, much to his joy. They got married in "Turn Down For What" and right after Grace moved to Oakland as planned.
However, not long after the two relocated, Billy's sudden death disrupted everyone's life and made Carter realize that Spencer needed Grace to be there for him more than ever, so he told her to come back to Los Angeles for a while to stand by her son through his grief, thus willingly taking the burden of flying back and forth to keep the family together. The two of them then kept this arrangement until things calmed down and Grace could return to Oakland, although she continued to fly back and forth to be around his son and the South Crenshaw community every chance she got.
