History[]
Season Five[]
In "Don't Sweat the Technique", Gia meets Layla and tells her that it's good to see her again, but Laurie had to cancel. Layla thinks that Laurie still sees her as "JP's baby girl with the pigtails", but Gia assures her that's not true, since she started her own label right out of high school. Layla tells her that Laurie called her "Little Layla" three times in a two-minute conversation, but Gia tells her not to take it personally, since she's still "Intern Gia" even after five years. Layla thinks that Laurie is swamped with new clients, but Gia let it slip that the only thing Laurie's swamped with is spin class. Gia tells Layla to ignore what she said, claiming that she's a little under it right now. Layla tells her that she could use a night out.
Later, Gia, Olivia, Layla, and Patience are hanging out at the Slauson Café. Gia tells them that Keating Records is pretty much a boy's club since Clay took over. She's surprised that he hasn't put a hot tub in the lobby. She says that she'd rather have a small studio with one talented artist than a lobby full of idiots. Gia's a huge fan of Patience's. She snuck out of work to see her on tour, and Patience didn't disappoint. Olivia notes that her ex is on a smash tour. Layla explains that Spencer and Olivia just broke up, and Gia comforts Olivia but thinks that if he used the word "smash", she might be better off without him. Gia asks if she works with Layla and Patience, but Olivia says that she does nothing, thanks to Spencer, Jordan, and Billy. Layla tells Gia that Olivia is a ridiculously talented journalist who has her own podcast. Gia says that they're all powerhouses before 20. She tells Patience that she loved her music video for 'Shining' and that she's even prettier in person. Patience declares that she's her new best friend.
They get hit on by Charlie Madden, but Olivia, Layla, and Patience are not interested. Gia says that she wouldn't be so quick to shut him down, as they'd never know what could come of it. Patience reasserts that she's gay and not into guys, but Gia thinks that everyone Patience meets is a potential fan. She tells them that the game has changed. He could be an influencer with thousands of followers; he posts about her, and just like that, she has thousands of new fans. They see douchey guys, but Gia sees sold-out concerts.
Gia asks Layla about Patience's look in her "Music Can Save Us" video. Layla explains that Patience has the bohemian, girl-next-door vibe, and it's worked well for her. Gia argues that it works, but the girl next door can only go so far. She suggests that it's time for her to move out of the neighborhood and see the world. She asks Patience if she wants to be the girl next door or the badass woman sailing away on her multi-million-dollar yacht. Since Patience is in between albums, now is a great time to reinvent herself and show people she's grown. Patience asks what's wrong with her now, but Gia just wants people to look at Patience and see the glamorous, beautiful star that she sees. Olivia can't believe that Patience is going to change her look just because Gia, a stranger, told her to. Patience and Layla reassure Gia that she meant no harm; she's just going through a breakup.
The next morning, Gia is made the new head of PR at ForMonica Records. She claims that there's no way they'd let her back at Keating Records now, not the way she quit. She promises Layla that she won't let her down. Layla assures her that her talents won't go wasted with her. Patience figures out that last night was an interview for Gia. Gia shows Patience some concept art based on their talk last night, which Patience loves.
In "Feeling Myself", Gia brings over racks of dresses to the Baker house for Patience to try. Patience wants some of Jordan's snacks, but Gia tells her no eating in the dress. Patience says she needs practice eating at the party, but Gia explains that she's not going to the party; the tickets are just for the red carpet. Layla tells Patience that, from a publicity angle, it's more important to be photographed on the carpet than to go to the party, and Gia adds that they don't even allow press into the event. Jordan suggests that Layla wear a gown too, and Gia is excited about the idea. Layla declines, which makes Patience decide that she's not wearing a gown either. Gia is less excited about the idea, but Layla finally agrees to let Gia pick out a dress for her.
In "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down", Gia, Layla, and Patience are listening to a recording of Patience's new song, "Fire & Ice". Gia admits that she was listening to the song on the treadmill the other day and almost fell off trying to twerk and sprint.
Later, at the set, Patience asks if Layla signed off on the creative direction because it's different from what they discussed. Gia assures her that all she did was take her beautiful lyrics and morph them into something her fans will be obsessed with. One of Gia's favorite stylists designed the costume for Patience, and it's executed to absolute perfection.
Patience starts rehearsing, but she has trouble dancing in her heels and wants to cancel everything. Layla shows up and asks Gia what possessed her to take such a hard turn from what they originally discussed. Gia argues that Layla hired her to take big, creative swings, and this was her first go at that directive. Gia promises that she'll explain everything later, but she has to go apologize to Patience first. Layla tells her that she'll go, but Gia says that she upset her, so it should come from her.
Backstage, Patience says that the whole look isn't her, and Gia agrees. She tells her that she's just playing a character. The whole point was for her to have fun and also to feel a sense of protection because the idea is to use this character to distance Patience, the person, from all the crazy fans. Gia thought this would be a great way for her to claim her power, devoid of fear. Patience says that she's down to try with shorter stilettos, but only if Gia shows her how to do the sprint twerk.
