History[]
Season Six[]
In "Public Service Announcement", Olivia discusses her proposed book about Billy with Jordan. She mentions that her friend Ashley had a contact at a publisher who really liked her proposal.
In "Business is Business", Olivia leaves Ashley a voicemail, saying that things just went off the rails with Spencer's mom. She's starting to wonder if the book was even a good idea and really needs to talk to Ashley.
In "Trust Issues", Ashley surprises Olivia with a snack basket at the Baker house. They share a hug, and she asks what he's doing here. Ashley questions whether she actually listened to the voicemail he left a couple of weeks ago about her publisher expediting her draft date and calls her desperate. Ashley admits he's missed her and assumed she'd want a refill on her favorite crisps.
Ashley and Olivia are snacking on N.K. Buttersons on the patio together. He asks how she's doing with her book, but Olivia wants a few life updates, since he traveled 5,000 miles to be here. Ashley argues that the most pressing update is about him. Olivia tells him she's making good progress with interviews, and he asks who's up next. Ashley meets Jordan and Layla, who both assumed he was a girl. He's heard a lot about them and correctly identifies them as a successful music producer and a footballer. Olivia invites him to a kickback with the Vortex, where he can meet everyone. With Jordan and Layla gone, Ashley asks Olivia what's delaying her interview with Laura; he thought she was onboard. Olivia suggests they put a pin in the conversation, but Ashley tells her it's fine to say she needs to call Spencer.
At the beach house, Spencer is surprised to see that Ashley is a man. Ashley tells Spencer that it's a pleasure to finally meet him and mentions that he and Olivia would stay up late watching his games last season. Spencer compliments Ashley's paintings, saying the exhibition he did about his grandparents was dope. He then asks what inspired Ashley's impromptu trip. Ashley figures Olivia could use some support in getting her book across the finish line, especially with her publisher's deadline being moved up.
Ashley is talking with Jordan, Layla, Olivia, and Spencer. Jordan thinks that Ashley's artwork is hanging in Buckingham Palace, but Ashley corrects him, saying it was in Windsor Castle for a display of top Cambridge art students, but only for a day. Spencer tells him not to undersell himself, and Ashley remarks that he sounds like Olivia. Spencer, Jordan, and Layla leave, leaving Ashley and Olivia alone together.
He tells her that she's different here. He's not exactly sure why, but the Olivia he knows—the one who conquered the UK solo—wouldn't be running from interviewing her mom or avoiding talking to him about the real reasons why. He admits he had his own reservations about having tough conversations when he was putting together the exhibition about his grandparents. His granddad struggled with his identity his whole life, but all he wanted to do was capture the essence of what he was feeling. He needed to do it to better understand who he was and to help someone else feel seen. Olivia opens up to him, saying she doesn't want to have another emotional setback. Ashley tells her that vulnerability is exactly what she should be bringing to the book. From what he's seen of her family and friends, she has a large enough village to help her through it. He assures her that she's strong enough.
In "Passin' Me By", Ashley visits Olivia and admits that popping by unannounced is becoming a bit of a habit. She's heading to Spencer's game but suggests that all three of them could get breakfast tomorrow. Ashley tells her he'll be heading back to London around that time. He's been here for a few weeks, but he's barely seen Olivia. Ashley suggests a rendezvous after the game to sketch her portrait. It's for an art walk back home, and since she's been the best part of him this past year, he wants to craft something for her since she's his person. Olivia isn't sure that's a good idea, but Ashley reassures her it's just a sketch. His friendship meant everything to her in London, but she feels they got a little too close. He doesn't understand why he can't sketch her, but Olivia apologizes and tells him it's less about the sketch and more about boundaries and space.
Ashley shows up at the beach house and presents Olivia with his sketch. He couldn't resist. Spencer arrives and asks Olivia if she's okay. Ashley tells him she's just looking at the painting, but Spencer clarifies that he was talking to his girl. Ashley says they just need a moment, but Spencer interjects. Olivia begs Spencer to let her handle Ashley.
Ashley tells Olivia that he named the painting The Season of Olivia and based it on the endless pictures of them in his photo library. Olivia thinks he's bold for showing up at Spencer's house, assuming he wouldn't mind. Ashley admits he wanted to see her in person, but Olivia thinks he's upset because she turned him down earlier. She feels like he used the sketch to put pressure on her and create drama with Spencer. Olivia asks him what's really going on because she thought they were friends. Ashley tells her they were, until he realized he wanted more. The feelings had probably been there all along, but he didn't acknowledge them until she left this summer. Suddenly, there were fewer calls, fewer texts... less Olivia. He tells her that relationships are fleeting, and time waits for no one. But sometimes, it slows down long enough for you to feel something rare and intentional. He believes that was them in London. Olivia insists that they're just friends because time slowed down the moment she and Spencer met. And no matter the distance or setbacks, it has remained the same speed ever since. Olivia apologizes for ever making him feel any differently and wishes him safe travels back to London.
Trivia[]
- Spencer, Jordan, and Layla all thought that he was a girl.
